Olena Mykhailivna Verikivska (born 15 March 1932, Kharkiv - 22 September 2004, Kyiv) was a Ukrainian pianist and teacher. Daughter of composer Mykhailo Verikivskyi, sister of Iryna Verikivska, wife of Eduard Mytnytskyi. Honoured Worker of Culture of Ukraine (1993).
Biography
1955 - graduated from the Kyiv Conservatory (class of A. A. Yankevych-Yankelevych).
Since 1955, she has been a piano teacher, and since 1986, she has been the head of the piano department of the R. Glier Kyiv Music School.
At the same time, in 1964-1971, she was a lecturer at the Department of Special Piano at the Kyiv Conservatory.
She held masterclasses in Poland, Germany, and Venezuela.
In the late 1980s, she launched a series of concerts called "Anthology of Ukrainian Piano Music".
In 1995, she organised a regional competition for young pianists (since 2004 - named after Olena Verikivska).
She passed away on 22 September 2004. On 24 March 2006, a memorial plaque in her memory was unveiled in classroom No. 9 of the Glière Institute of Music with the support of the International Charitable Foundation of the Vladimir Horowitz Competition.
Her son Dmytro (b. 1958) is a double bassist who works at the Gera Opera House in Germany.
Film director Eduard Mytnytskyi, who was married to her for over 52 years, dedicated the book Lelya to the memory of his beloved wife, which was published in 2006.
