Rachinsky Ivan Ivanovich

1861-1921

Ivan Ivanovych Rachynskyi (February 25, 1861, Temyrivka village, now Zaporizhzhia region - c. 1921) was a Ukrainian and Russian composer, music critic, poet, and translator.

In 1866 he graduated from the Law Faculty of St. Petersburg University. He studied music privately with N. Kozanli, G. Dutsh and others, and attended lectures at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. He worked as a music critic for newspapers and magazines.

He is the author of a symphony and two symphonic suites. Among his chamber instrumental works are three string quartets, two piano works, and pieces for piano, violin, and cello. He also wrote choruses, songs, and romances (over 25). His music reflects the Ukrainian flavor.

Musicological works: "Etudes on the History of Russian Music", "Virtuosity and Musical and Educational Tasks", reviews, etc.
