Pivovarov Valentyn Mikhailovich

Valentyn Mykhailovych Pyvovarov (* 6 April 1948, Bila Tserkva, Kyiv Oblast, Ukrainian SSR) is an outstanding Ukrainian opera singer (bass), People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR, awarded the Order of Merit, 3rd Class, in 2001.

Biography.
He came from a large family, his mother died early, and his grandmother raised him. He sang in a village choir and worked as an electrician. He served in the Soviet army, and after his demobilisation, his father helped him get a job at a machine-building plant. However, Valentyn achieved his goal: in 1970-1971, he became an artist of the Cherkasy Folk Choir, was accepted by Anatolii Pashkevych, and in 1973 he went to study.

In 1977, he graduated from the Kyiv Conservatory in the class of Halyna Sukhorukova. During his studies at the Conservatory, he was invited to work at the Leipzig Opera. Being married, he was forced to work part-time as a student, playing the drums in a firefighters' orchestra. In the same year, he became a soloist of the National Opera of Ukraine.

In 1978, he won the 2nd prize at the Tchaikovsky International Competition, and in 1979 - the 2nd prize at the Verdi Voices Competition in Busseto.

1983 - People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR.

Since 1994, he has been living and working mainly abroad - at the Opera House in St. Gallen (Switzerland) and Maribor (Slovenia).

He has performed with Paata Burchuladze, Piero Capuchilli, and Cheryl Milnes.

In February 2013, he performed at the National Opera during the event "Ukrainian opera stars in the world"; Oleh Kulko, Olha Mykytenko, Marian Talaba also took part.
