Okhrimchuk Serhii

1968

Ukrainian violin virtuoso who performs folk, jazz, and rock music. He studies and performs ethnic violin music from different countries, and experiments with combining many musical genres.

Biography.

Graduated from the Zhytomyr Music College named after Viktor Kosenko and the Kyiv Conservatory, majoring in violin (1997). He played in the experimental rock band Biokord, and from 1990 to 1997 - in the trio of modern improvisational music SAT. He independently mastered various regional folk styles of violin playing.
The CAT trio consists of: S. Okhrimchuk, O. Klymenko, M. Strelnikov (1992).

Since 1993, he has worked at the Department of Ethnomusicology at the Kyiv Conservatory, collecting, researching, and reproducing authentic violin music. He participated in scientific folklore conferences in Ukraine, Poland, and Russia.

Since 2000, he has taught at the Department of Ancient Music at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine. He has created several programs with leading jazz musicians from Ukraine and Poland, and participated in many jazz festivals.

He is a member of the instrumental chapel "Nadobryden", the folklore ensemble "Drevo", the Victor Solomin Quartet, the jazz group "Faces of Cities", Katya Chilly, and "Chorea Kozatska". Participant of Oleg Skrypka's ethno-disco project "Boots from a Bull" and "Le Grand Orchestra". He is the leader and member of the string quartet "Sergei Ohrimchuk's Chapel".

He collaborates with many well-known Ukrainian and foreign performers and groups: Oleh Skrypka, Okean Elzy, Mlada, Ruslana, Bozhychi, Red Cardell (France), Dmytro Naidych, Karpatyany, and others.

On October 20, 2008, in the Ukrainian House, Serhiy Ohrimchuk took part in the creative dinner "Unforgettable Flower" dedicated to the memory of the singer, which was also attended by Nina Matvienko and her daughter Antonina, opera diva Maria Stefiuk, pop singer Maria Burmaka, and frontman of the band "Vopli Vidoplyasova" Oleg Skrypka.

He performed at the festivals "New Territory", "Kyiv Music Fest", "Art-Pole", "Old Cinema in a New Way", "Jazz Bez", "Music Premieres of the Season", "Forum of Young Music", "Drevo Roda Kobzarskoho", "All Mazurkas of the World" in Warsaw and others. He has toured with various ensembles in France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, and Uzbekistan.

He performs music by contemporary Ukrainian composers, creates music for films and theater performances. Participates in various musical and theatrical performances, multimedia projects ("Kyiv Cakes").
