Marenych Valery Petrovich

Valerii Marenych (born 1 January 1946, Kryvyi Rih) is a Ukrainian singer, People's Artist of Ukraine (2003).
Biography.
He was born on 1 January 1946 in Kryvyi Rih, Dnipro region.

In 1971, together with his future wife Antonina Sukhorukova, he organised a singing duet that won first place at the VIA (vocal and instrumental ensembles) competition in Kharkiv.

In 1973, Antonina's sister Svitlana joined the duo, creating the Marenych Trio, whose repertoire included both folk songs and original songs, mostly in Ukrainian. Among them are "I'm Sitting at the Window's Edge", "My Mother Sent Me", "Oh, in a Grove by the Danube", "Halya Carries Water", "Oh, Under a Cherry Tree...", "Silence Around", "Why Didn't You Come?" and others.

In 1979, Melodiya recorded their first disc, and Ukrtelefilm made a video version of it. In the same year, all the band members were awarded the title of Honoured Artists of the Ukrainian SSR.

Since 2005, he has been performing independently. Currently lives in Lutsk.
