Zhdanov Sergey S.

1907-1968

Sergei Sergeevich Zhdanov (January 15, 1907, St. Petersburg, Russian Empire - October 8, 1968, Kyiv, Ukrainian SSR) was a Ukrainian Soviet composer.
He was born on January 2 (15), 1907 in St. Petersburg. In 1929 he graduated from the Kyiv Music College (piano class of G. Beklemishev), in 1934 from the Mykola Lysenko State Music and Drama Institute, composition class of Revutsky.

He died on October 8, 1968. He was buried in Kyiv at the Baikove cemetery.

Biography
He began his creative activity in 1930. He wrote operas "Jacqueria" (1935), "Shchors" (1937), "The Crimson Stars" (based on Kotsiubynskyi's novel "Fata Morgana", 1967); musical comedies "Palyvoda" (a comedy by Karpenko-Kary, 1939), "Crazy Beauty" (1941).

Since 1947 he has worked in cinema. Author of music for Ukrainian films:

"When Nightingales Sing (1957);
"Sashko (1959);
"The Sea Seagull (1961) and others.
