Zbandut Yuliy Fedorovych

1942-2011

Master of folk musical instruments, composer. Diploma winner of the All-Ukrainian TV competition "Solar Clarinets" (1976).

Born in the village of Kamelik, Saratov region. Graduated from the Artemivsk Music College (Donetsk region, 1961, conducting class). Since then, he has been an artist of the Kharkiv Philharmonic; 1982-1984 - music editor of the Cherkasy Philharmonic; 1984-1990 - teacher of the Cherkasy Music School No. 1; 1990-1992 - master of folk instruments at the Music Production Center "Culture" (Kyiv).

He composed a number of songs based on the words of famous poets, including Lina Kostenko, Borys Oliynyk, Mykola Vingranovskyi, and Vasyl Herasymiuk.

The master devoted many years to the reconstruction and manufacture of kobzas. His instruments are played by the National Orchestra of Folk Instruments and the Kolo kobza ensemble.

Zbandut invented and applied the "closed shock wave system" in the construction of kobza, suitable for the manufacture of various musical instruments, and made a number of improvements, creating an acoustic instrument based on new principles.

Yuliy Zbandut died on January 17, 2011 in Cherkasy.
