Volodymyr Ivanovych Zaransky (born 7 September 1947, Lviv) is a Ukrainian violinist, violist, conductor, teacher, professor, Honoured Worker of Culture of Poland (2008).
Biography
1971 - graduated from the Lviv Conservatory (class of B. Kaskiv).
He continued his postgraduate education at the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory and the Gnessin Russian Music and Pedagogical Academy (class of Professors V. Klimov, I. Bezrodnyi and P. Bondarenko).
1981 - completed an assistantship at the Kyiv Conservatory (class of V. Stetsenko).
He also completed his postgraduate studies at the Rylsky Institute of Art History, Folklore and Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where he defended his PhD thesis.
Since 1973, he has been a lecturer at the Lysenko Lviv Music Academy: 1980-1992 - Dean of the Composition, History and Theory and Piano Faculties.
Since 1998, he has been a lecturer at the violin department. At the same time, since 1973, he was an assistant concertmaster, and in 1989-1992 - concertmaster, conductor, and director of the Lviv Chamber Orchestra at the Lviv Music Academy.
Since 2002 - Candidate of Arts. Since 2004 he has been a professor.
He performed together with pianist B. Tykhoniuk.
He took part in the first performances of works by many Ukrainian composers (as a violinist and violist), including Desiderii Zador, Mykola Kolessa, Roman Simovych, M. Skoryk, and Yevhen Stankovych.
Among his students are Anna Savytska, V. Baran, Mykola Haviuk, Y. Dmyterko, S. Kukoba, N. Pryvalova, and Nazar Fediuk.
