Zagrebelny Alexander Mykolayovych

1937-1993

Ukrainian singer (bass), 1968 - winner of the All-Union Glinka Vocal Competition, 1982 - People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR.
Biography.

In 1968, he graduated from the Kyiv Conservatory, class of M. Snaha-Patorzhynska, and was accepted to the Kyiv Opera and Ballet Theater.

In 1976, he was awarded the Shevchenko Prize together with D. Shostakovych, K. Symeonov, L. Venediktov, and Y. Kolesnyk for the opera Kateryna Izmailova at the Taras Shevchenko Kyiv Opera and Ballet Theater.

In 1973, he was an intern at the La Scala Theater in Milan.

He performed the following roles:

Ruslan - "Ruslan and Lyudmila" by M. Glinka,
Sultan - "The Cossack Beyond the Danube" by S. Hulak-Artemovsky,
Mephistopheles - Faust by Gounod,
Voivode - Taras Bulba by Mykola Lysenko,
Sokalsky - "The Commander" by B. Liatoshynsky,
Yaroslav the Wise - the opera of the same name by H. Maiboroda,
Comte de Saint-Brie - The Huguenots by J. Meyerbeer,
Boris Godunov - Boris Godunov, Dosifey - Khovanshchina, Cherevik - Sorochinskaya Yarmarka - M. Mussorgsky,
Polkan - The Golden Cockerel by N. Rimsky-Korsakov,
Borys Tymofiyovych - "Katerina Izmailova" by D. Shostakovich.

He also performed as a chamber singer.

Among his recordings are Symphony-Cantata No. 1 "My Ukraine" (1943) by A. Shtogarenko, Kyiv Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, Larysa Yurchenko (mezzo-soprano), conducted by Stepan Turchak.
