Yevchenko Kasyan Dmytrovych (March 20, 1925 - October 24, 2009) is a Ukrainian musician, master of folk instruments, leader of the ensembles "Huk", "Huchok" and "Guchenya", soloist of the National Honored People's Choir of Ukraine named after Hryhoriya Verovka.
Biography
Kasyan Dmytrovych was born on March 20, 1925 in the village of Zhovtnevo (now Kvitnevo) of the Popilnya district in a singing peasant family. He studied at the October seven-year school.
He survived the Holodomor of 1932-1933.
A participant in the hostilities of the German-Soviet war. For the courage and bravery shown at the front, Kasyan Dmytrovych was awarded the Order of the Great Patriotic War and the medal "For Combat Merit".
Since 1946, he worked at the Kyiv General Post Office (Kyiv General Post Office).
In 1948, he entered the Kyiv Conservatory, where he studied bandura.
From 1950 to 1984, he worked in the State Academic People's Choir named after Hryhoriya Verovka. His talent was awarded the "Badge of Honor" order. Toured with choir concerts in 37 countries of the world. In the program of the folk choir named after H. Verevka was an instrumental number "Wedding March" (Ukrainian folk melodies arranged by V. Popadyuk). It was performed by an instrumental ensemble consisting of six musicians, including K. Yevchenko, who played the goat, trumpet, and horn.
In 1983, on the basis of the cultural center of the village Zhovtneve (Kvitneve) creates the ensemble "Three Musicians".
In 1986, the ensemble "Three Musicians" grew into the ensemble of folk music "Huk", the name of which was determined thanks to the instrument invented by Kasyan Dmytrovych. Ukrtelefilm made two films about the "Huk" ensemble and its leader, which were repeatedly shown on Ukrainian television: "Oh, yes, the guys from the fair were coming" and "Polka with a Gotsem". Maksym Rylskyi wrote about the work of the ensemble: "When the songs of my region float in native voices, it seems to me that I am gathering healing herbs in the meadows." The folk music ensemble "Huk" is a participant in the international festivals "Gryshene" in Vilnius, "Golden Fleece" in Russia, "Pokut" in Kharkiv, "Slavyansky Bazaar" in Belarus, "Bereginia" in Lutsk, "Zortytsia" in Zaporizhzhia, " Artistic Harvest" in Kyiv, Family Holiday "Our Red One", All-Ukrainian Congress of Ukrainianists, repeated participant in TV tournaments "Solar Clarinets", regional holiday "Towels of the native land", "Obzhynky-2008".
In 1987, by the decree of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the title "People's amateur collective" was granted. Resolution of the collegium of the Ministry of Culture of the Ukrainian SSR dated 14.12.1987 No. 12/15-G.
In 2006, Kasyan Dmytrovych received the title of Master of Folk Art. Great artistic achievements of the master and the first great success came to the team during the celebration of the 1100th anniversary of Zhytomyr. In 2003, the children's collective "Huchok" was created on the basis of "Huk", therefore "Huk" was relocated to the Popilnya Children's Music School.
In 2004, the "Huk" and "Huchok" collectives were supplemented by the "Huchenya" ensemble. The tools for them were made exactly the same as for "Hook", only small, designed for children. All members of these groups, except accordionists, play exclusively on instruments made by the hands of the Master.
Since 2009, Anton Sova is the great-nephew of the master, the heir to Kasyan Yevchenko's work. Anton is the head of the music label TUARON, which deals with the copyright and related rights of Kasyan Yevchenko, maintains the relevance of information about the master and cooperates with the music school, which was named in honor of the outstanding musician.
In 2019, Anton Sova founded the Kasyan Yevchenko Annual International Folk Music Festival.
In 2023, the People's Amateur Collective "Huk" celebrated its 40th anniversary. The ensemble shot a short musical film dedicated to the memory of Kasyan Dmytrovych with the current members[9].
Art
Kasyan Dmytrovych, a Ukrainian folk musician, has revived more than 50 folk Ukrainian instruments, including the Kozobas, Huk, Trumpet, Horn, Tsopalo, Kozu (Dudu), Whistle, Bukhalo and others. In total, he produced more than 70 types of different instruments. In addition, Kasyan Dmytrovych knew how to play the pipe, bandura, violin, goat, and bagpipes. For 25 years, he worked in cultural institutions of the Popilyan district and founded a folk music ensemble called "Huk". His dwelling in Zhovtneve (now Kvitneve) of Popilyan district was built in folk style and served as a workshop and a permanent exhibition.
After retirement, Kasyan Dmytrovych began to engage in the disclosure of artistic amateur activities in his native Zhovtnev, which marked the village and district. He began to improve ancient wooden instruments, inspired by the desire of Anatoly Avdievskyi, the artistic director of the People's Choir named after Hryhorii Veryovka, to enrich the orchestra with folk wind instruments.
Kasyan Dmytrovych turned his attention to the Cossack trumpet and trumpet, which were popular in Zaporozhye.
