Yaroshenko Lavrentiy Artemovych

1909-1975

Lavrentiy Yaroshenko (* 23 August 1909, Kharkiv - † 24 November 1975, Leningrad) was a Ukrainian and Russian singer, bass. People's Artist of the RSFSR (1956).
Biography.
Lavrentiy Artemovych Yaroshenko was born in Kharkiv (according to some sources, in Taganrog). He worked at the Red Hydropress plant (Taganrog). In 1933, he studied at the Kharkiv Air Force School, graduated in 1935 and remained at the school as a pilot instructor.

In 1937-1941, he studied at the Kharkiv Conservatoire, vocal class, with Professor Pavlo Golubev. His talent as a singer was clearly revealed on the opera stage during his studies. In 1938-1941 he performed with success at the Kharkiv Opera and Ballet Theatre.

1941-1942 - soloist of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Kharkiv Military District.

1942-1946 - soloist of the Alexandrov Red Banner Ensemble of the Soviet Army, later soloist of the Kirov Leningrad Opera and Ballet Theatre (1946-1968).

The singer was very good at both heroic and character roles. He is also known as a performer of Ukrainian music, in particular folk songs and romances by Mykola Lysenko and Yevhen Stepovyi.

In 1969-1975 he was a teacher at the Rimsky-Korsakov Music School in Leningrad.

1951 For the role of Taras in the opera "The Family of Taras" by D. Kabalevsky, the singer received the State Prize of the USSR (1951);

1956- People's Artist of the RSFSR.

He sang the following parts:

Boris, Ivan Khovansky ("Boris Godunov", "Khovanshchina" by Mussorgsky),
Konchak, Galitsky (Borodin's Prince Igor),
Ruslan, Susanin (Ruslan and Lyudmila, Ivan Susanin by Glinka),
Mephistopheles (Gounod's Favst),
Leporello; Bestuzhev (The Decembrists by Shaporin)
Tkachenko (Prokofiev's Semyon Kotko).
The role of Taras in the opera "The Family of Taras" by D. Kabalevsky).
Performed concerts.
