Yarmola Oleksandr Yuriyovych

1966

Ukrainian musician, vocalist, lyricist, founder and leader of the Cossack rock band Haydamaky.

Biography

Oleksandr was born on April 8, 1966 in the city of Chornobyl. He received his secondary education at Kyiv school No. 200. Then he graduated from the Kyiv Civil Engineering Institute, Kyiv Music College and the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy, majoring in vocals. From 1986 to 1989, he was the leader of the Kyiv-based heavy metal band Jaguar. In 1991, Oleksandr radically changed his musical role for a while and became a baritone in the H. Veriovka National Academic Folk Choir.
"Actus"

Since 1993, Oleksandr Yarmola has been the frontman of the band Aktus. By the beginning of the 2000s, Aktus had toured Ukraine, Poland, and Germany, won the largest Ukrainian festival of the time, Chervona Ruta'95, and recorded two albums: "Guitars, Hearts, Grenades (1996) and No One Comprehends (1998).
"Haydamaky"

In 2001, the Cossack rock band Haydamaky was founded. In the same year, Haidamaky signed a contract with EMI Records. Since 2006, the band's albums have been released by the German label EastBlock Music. "The Haidamaky have released 5 recorded CDs: Haydamaky (2001), Bohuslav (2004), Ukraine Calls (2006), Kobzar (2008), Voo Voo and Haydamaky (2009), as well as a dozen music videos. Their songs are included in many Ukrainian and foreign collections.

The album "Ukraine Calls" received the WOMEX/World Music Charts Top Label award (2006), and "Kobzar" was ranked seventh in the BBC's WorldMusic Charts Europe. The album, recorded together with the legendary Polish band Voo Voo, went gold and was nominated for the 2010 Frederick Award and awarded the 2010 Wirtualne Gesle statuette. As a member of the Haidamaky, during the recording of Kobzar, Oleksandr Yarmola collaborated with the famous sound producer Mario Activator, Polish stars Pablopavo and Reggaenerator from Vavamuffin and Grabaz (Pidżama Porno / Strachy na Lachy). The remix of the song "Wind Blows" was created by members of the band Zion Train. In 2009, the leader of the Cossack rock band recorded a song with the Polish heavy metal band Rootwater.

Together with the Haydamaky band, Oleksandr Yarmola toured more than 18 countries, where he played more than 700 concerts (mostly at international festivals). In 2008, he took part in the Kein Grenzen tour with Austrian Hubert Von Goisern.
Social activities

In 2006, Yarmola was awarded the "Art Olympus of Ukraine" prize by the Verkhovna Rada Committee for his significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian culture and art. The musician participated in public and charitable projects. That is why Ukrainian and foreign TV and radio companies talked about him and invited him to appear on their programs. In 2009, he became a publicist for the Ukrainian Week magazine. This publication presented him in the project "Faces of Ukraine 2010". In 2011, Alexander was invited to participate in the Mix Fight M-1 Ukraine League. He was a member of the jury of the Kustendorf Festival 2009 by Emir Kusturica (Mokra Gora, Serbia), Targova Street 2010 (Lodz, Poland), Open Night 2009 (Kyiv, Ukraine), Kinoetnika (Chernivtsi, Ukraine) and UA/PL "Alternative Music Meeting" (Kyiv, Ukraine).
Interests.

In his free time he goes in for sports.
Interesting facts

Oleksandr is a candidate for master of sports in freestyle wrestling (despite always having "3" in physical education at school, he had a conflict with his teacher - he did not want to fulfill the standards).
He appreciates openness and a sense of humor in people; he hates people who keep one hand behind their back. He likes it when everyone is happy, when there is harmony.
