Yankevich-Yankelevich Arnold

1897-1992

Arnold Anatoliyovych Yankevych-Yankeleych (30 June 1897, Kyiv, Russian Empire - 4 July 1982, Kyiv, Ukrainian SSR, USSR) was a Ukrainian music teacher and professor. One of the founders of the Ukrainian piano school. He trained a number of famous pianists and music teachers.

Biography
1913-1919 - studied at the Kyiv Conservatory (piano class of H. Beklemishev).

In 1917-1919, he was the chairman of the council of elders and the chairman of the board of the Economic Student Society, which helped students with their studies and everyday life.

After graduating from the conservatory, he became the head of the musical department of the Political Department of the 12th Army (Red Army) and the repertoire section of the All-Ukrainian Music Committee of the People's Commissariat of Education of Ukraine, which was headed by the outstanding singer L. V. Sobinov. Sobinov. At that time, he performed as a pianist and lecturer.

After graduating from the Conservatory in 1919, A. Yankelevych became an assistant to Professor F. Blumenfeld.

1921-1982 - lecturer at the Kyiv Conservatory. Since 1935 - professor. In 1938, he became the head of the chamber ensemble department at the piano faculty.

He taught the course "Special Piano". He worked on the problems of the art of piano playing.

He was awarded the Order of Lenin (1953) and a medal.

Pupils.
Among his students were pianists L. Weintraub, A. Roshchyna, N. Witte, Z. Yovenko, N. Karevina, D. Paperno, H. Mixon, O. Verikivska, I. Kalynovska, and composer I. Shamo.
