Yanivskyi Bohdan-Yurii

1941-2005

Bohdan-Yurii Yaroslavovych Yanivskyi (4 July 1941, Lviv, Ukrainian SSR - 17 June 2005, the same place) was a Ukrainian composer, pianist and teacher. People's Artist of Ukraine (1991). Winner of the Taras Shevchenko State Prize in 1997.
Graduated from the Lviv Conservatory; headed the music department of the Lviv Theatre for Young Audiences.

Since 1991, he has been teaching at the Lviv Conservatory (professor since 1996) and at the Higher Music Institute (Lviv, 2000).

He is the author of orchestral and chamber instrumental works and music for numerous dramatic performances. He is the author of the opera "Oleska Ballad", music for many performances, as well as animated films ("If the Stars Fall..." (1978), "Sunny Loaf" (1981), "Candlelight Wedding" (1982), "Lullaby" (1984), etc.

He was the initiator (since 1991), and later, for 15 years, the organiser and inspirer of the international competition-festival of contemporary Ukrainian song "Golden Trembitas".

He was a member of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine.

He died and was buried in Lviv on field 51 of the Lychakiv Cemetery.
