Biography
He was born on February 17, 1955 in the village of Pidtesovo, Krasnoyarsk Territory (his parents were repressed). From 1956 to 1979 lived in Ivano-Frankivsk, where he graduated from the Faculty of Music and Pedagogy of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University.
Since 1979, he has lived in Lviv, where in 1986 he graduated from the Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Academy of Music in the composition class of Professor Anatoly Kos-Anatolsky, and after his death, Leszek Mazepa.
Graduate of the All-Ukrainian competitions-festivals: Golden-Domed Kyiv and "Let's create modern patriotic music".
Member of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine. Honored Artist of Ukraine. He worked as a teacher of composition at the Lviv Secondary Special Music Boarding School named after S. Krushelnytska. Among the students are laureates of Ukrainian and international competitions for young composers.
Myroslav Volynskyi's creative output includes about 200 works of various forms and genres. In his work, the composer gravitates towards monumental genres: opera, oratorio, symphonic music. There are vocal works written in German, Polish and Italian.
The works were performed and are in the repertoire not only of domestic performers, but also of musicians from Switzerland, Germany, Poland, Canada, the United States of America, Israel, China, France and England.
The composer maintains creative ties with various musical ensembles: symphony orchestras of Lviv, Odesa, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Cherkasy, as well as the National Presidential Orchestra; with many choral ensembles: Municipal Chamber Choir "Kyiv", "Khreshchatyk", "Blagovist" (Kyiv), Honored Chapel of Ukraine "Trembita", "Halytskyi Chamber Choir", "Yevshan", "Soli Deo" (Lviv ), "Chernivtsi" (Chernivtsi), "Halytskyi Perezvni" (Ivano-Frankivsk); as well as individual domestic and foreign performers.
Among the high-profile events, we can note: the production of the oratorio "Moses" in 2002 by the Odesa Opera and Ballet Theater (conductor, People's Artist of Ukraine Vasyl Vasylenko), the production of the same oratorio in Lviv by the Honored Chapel of Ukraine "Trembita" (conductor, People's Artist of Ukraine Ivan Yuzyuk) - to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Franko;
production of the oratorio "Totus Tuus" (2011) - on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the pastoral visit of Pope Ivan Paul II to Ukraine. (Honored Chapel of Ukraine "Trembita", conductor Honored Artist of Ukraine Mykola Kulyk);
production of the oratorio "I call you" (2015) to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi by the Honored Chapel of Ukraine "Trembit" and the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theater and. S. Krushelnytska (stage director, People's Artist of Ukraine Vasyl Vovkun). This oratory was also presented in Kyiv;
concert performance of the opera "Forest Song" at the opera festival "Opera in Miniature" in 2017 in the city of Kamianets-Podilskyi (Cast: Ukraine-Poland-Germany).
Production of Act I of the children's opera "Ivasyk-Telesyk" (2017) by the opera class of the Odesa Academy of Music named after A. Nezhdanova (directed by Galina Zhadushkina).
Opera Studio of the Kyiv National Music Academy named after Lesya Ukrainka's Opera Studio (2022) to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Lesya Ukrainka. P Tchaikovsky. Stage conductor Serhii Golubnychiy, director Maryna Ryzhova.
The "Andrei" Foundation published 2 CDs with the works of Myroslav Volynskyi in the "Spiritual Music of Ukraine" series.
Vocal works are recorded on 2 discs (Galicians II) in the Ukrainian Art Song Project Internet library
Individual works are also included in CDs of various creative teams.
Myroslav Volynskyi is a regular participant of the music festivals "Kyiv Music'fest" (Kyiv), "For a united European Ukraine" (Kyiv), "Velika kolyada" (Lviv), "Opera in miniature" Kamianets-Podilskyi , "Musical events of Ukraine" (Cherkasy).
On the basis of vocal works, master classes were held in Toronto (Canada).
Works on the Shevchenko theme are included in the 7-volume edition "Musical Shevchenko of Ukraine".
About 200 recordings of Myroslav Volynskyi's works are posted on the Internet resource YouTube.
