
Bogdan Vitaliyovich Volkov (born December 7, 1989, Torez, Donetsk region, Ukrainian SSR, USSR) is a Ukrainian, Russian opera singer (tenor).
Biography
Born on December 7, 1989 in the city of Torez, Donetsk region.
From 2005 to 2012, he studied at the Kiev Institute of Music named after R. Glier (class of Mykola Gorbatov and Tamara Koval).
From 2012 to 2013, he studied at the National Music Academy of Ukraine named after P. I. Tchaikovsky (class of Professor Oleksandr Dyachenko).
In 2013, he was accepted into the Youth Opera Program of the Bolshoi Theater, where he continued his vocal studies with Dmitry Vdovin and Svitlana Nesterenko. During this period, Bohdan made his debut in the roles of Mozart in the opera Mozart and Salieri by M. Rimsky-Korsakov, the Fool in Boris Godunov by M. Mussorgsky, Kai in The Tale of Kai and Gerda by S. Banevich, Vladimir Igorevich in Prince Igor by A. Borodin and others.
In February 2014, he made his debut in a new production of the opera The Tsar's Bride by M. Rimsky-Korsakov under the musical direction of Gennady Rozhdestvensky. With this role, he took part in the tour of the Bolshoi Theater in Vienna, the Hong Kong Arts Festival and the Lincoln Center Festival in New York.
In April 2015, he took part in a gala concert at the Luciano Pavarotti Theater (Modena, Italy), dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Mirella Freni's creative activity. In August 2015, he performed at the Hector Berlioz Festival in La Côte-Saint-André with the Orchestre National de Lyon under the baton of Leonard Slatkin. In October 2015, he made his debut in the role of Lensky in P. Tchaikovsky's opera Eugene Onegin.
From 2016 to 2018, he was a soloist of the Bolshoi Theater, in 2016 he received Russian citizenship.
In November 2016, he made his debut in the role of the Novice in B. Britten's opera Billy Budd, staged by David Alden. In February 2017, he took part in the production of M. Weinberg's opera The Idiot, where he performed the role of Prince Myshkin. He became the first performer of this role at the Bolshoi Theater.
In 2017, he took part in the Bolshoi Theater's tours of Switzerland and France. In July 2017, he performed the role of Lensky at the Aix-en-Provence Opera Festival and the Savonlinna Opera Festival.
At the beginning of the 2017/18 season, he made his debut at the Glyndebourne Festival as Ferrando (W. A. Mozart's La vie est les femmes), and in April 2018, he made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Tybalt (Romeo and Juliet by C. Gounod, conducted by Plácido Domingo).
In the 2018/19 season, he took part in two productions of Dmitry Chernyakov in the operas "The Engagement in the Monastery" by S. Prokofiev (the role of Antonio), conductor Daniel Barenboim, Berlin State Opera and "The Tale of Tsar Saltan" by M. Rimsky-Korsakov (the role of Guidon), conductor Alain Altinoglu, Royal Theater La Monnaie / De Munt, Brussels.

2013 — Grand Prix of the VI Open Competition for Young Vocalists named after A. Solovianenko (Donetsk).
2015 — 1st prize and audience prize at the Paris Opera Competition.
2016 — 2nd prize of the international competition of Plácido Domingo "Operalia" (Guadalajara, Mexico).
2017 — Laureate of the National Opera Prize "Onegin".
2017 — Winner of the Elena Obraztsova Foundation Prize.
2019 — Winner of the Casta Diva Prize in the “Zlit” nomination for the role of Lensky in the opera “Eugene Onegin” and Berendey in “The Snow Maiden”.
