Vereshchagin Boris Romanovich

Borys Romanovych Vereshchahin (born May 11, 1950, Kyiv) is a musicologist, composer, publisher, musician and public figure. Vereshchagin's brother Alla Romanivna.

Honored Artist of Ukraine (2004).
Borys Vereshchahin was born on May 11, 1950 in Kyiv in the family of a famous composer and teacher, a native of Sumy region, R. I. Vereshchahin.

He studied at the R. M. Glier Kyiv Music School, graduated from the Faculty of History and Theory (class of Professor I. A. Kotliarevskyi) and an optional composition course with Professor A. P. Kolomiets at the Tchaikovsky Kyiv State Conservatory (1974).

He served in the army.

He began his career as an editor of the instrumental music department of the Musical Ukraine publishing house. He worked as the editor-in-chief and director of the Musical Ukraine publishing house (1987-1999).

He worked as Deputy Director General of the National Palace "Ukraine" (1999-2005).

He worked in the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Vereshchahin's sister Alla Romanivna (30.04.1939) - choral conductor, teacher, Honored Artist of Ukraine, brother Yaroslav Romanovych - composer (1948-1999).

Creative activity
Author of many articles, reviews on musicology, development of musical culture, state cultural policy, creativity of Ukrainian composers and performers, musical and aesthetic education of youth, cultural studies, a number of literary and musical scripts, radio programs.

His works include pieces for piano, violin, flute, clarinet, bandura, cymbals; choruses, romances, pieces for a trio of bandura players (including "Zhuravka" based on the lyrics by B. Chip, "Why the viburnum bent down"), pieces for children (including the collection of piano pieces "Memories of Childhood"), arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs for voice accompanied by an orchestra of folk instruments (in particular, "Oh, there is a red viburnum in the meadow"), for voice accompanied by piano.

Author of songs based on texts by O. Oles, A. Dragomyretsky, B. Chip, V. Mordan, V. Cherepkov, O. Moroz, M. Salai-Pak, O. Bereza, B. Vereshchagin, and others (in particular, "Ukrainian Army, as if from the grave, has risen", "Woman of the Rain", a romantic song "Do not fly away. ..." (dedicated to the memory of the golden bass of Ukraine M. Shopsha), children's songs (including "My Ukraine" with lyrics by N. Lebid, "Let's go skiing" with lyrics by V. Mordany).

As a publisher, he released the first edition of the National Anthem of Ukraine, many topical editions of world and national music. Among them, in particular, the complete works of L. Revutsky and B. Liatoshynsky, spiritual works by D. Bortnyansky, M. Berezovsky, A. Vedel, M. Lysenko, M. Leontovych, K. Stetsenko, previously banned editions of M. Lysenko, O. Voropas, and others. Lysenko, O. Voropay, P. Matsenko, Z. Lysko, O. Koshytsia, S. Vorobkevych, H. Hotkevych, M. Haivoronsky, V. Verkhovynets, V. Barvinsky, H. Kitastyi, V. Yemets, P. Potapenko, V. Kipa, and others.

He launched a series of regional folklore publications "Golden Keys": "Songs of Bukovyna", "Songs of Sumy Region", "Songs of Ternopil Region", "Songs of Lviv Region", "Songs of Cherkasy Region", "Songs of Chernihiv Region", etc.

He has compiled a number of collections for piano, romances, vocal and choral works, and songs, including: "Polyphonic Works of Ukrainian Composers for Piano" (several editions), "Vocal Works of Ukrainian Composers" (several editions), "Popular Works for Piano" (several editions), "Works for Piano by Young Ukrainian Composers", etc.

He has edited many symphonic, chamber and instrumental works of world and national music.

Public activity
He was a member of the creative group (state commission) for the preparation of the musical version of the National Anthem of Ukraine.

Member of the National Union of Theater Workers of Ukraine and the National Choreographic Union of Ukraine.
