Venzhega Anatolii Ivanovych

1944-1981

Venzheha Anatolii Ivanovych (* 13 September 1944, Dniprodzerzhynsk, Dnipro region - 27 May 1981, Kyiv) - violist, teacher. Honoured Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1974). Diploma winner of the All-Union Viola Competition (1963). Laureate of the Ukrainian Competition of Ensembles (1968). Associate Professor (1973).

He graduated from the Dnipro Music College (1962), the Kyiv Conservatory (1965, class of P. Makarenko, violin, Z. Dashak, viola) and postgraduate studies at the Moscow Conservatory (1965-67, class of V. Borisovskyi). He began his fruitful concert activity in the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra at the Ukrainian Touring and Concert Association (1963-64), concertmaster of the viola group, soloist of the State Symphony Orchestra of the USSR (1967-69), played in the quartet of teachers of the Kyiv Conservatory (1971-74) together with O. Krysa, then in the ensemble with B. Kotorovych. He taught at the Department of Stringed Instruments (viola class, 1968-81). Among his students were winners of national and international competitions S. Kulakov and A. Zelinsky. As a soloist and ensemble player, he has numerous recordings in the funds of the Ukrainian Radio, gramophone discs ("Melodiya") with recordings of G. Telemann's Concerto in G Major, Suite No. 1 by M. Reger, Sonata by P. Hindemith, Concerto for Orchestra by M. Skoryk (1st performance), etc. His repertoire includes solo parts in the symphony "Harold in Italy" by G. Berlioz, symphonic poem "Don Quixote" by R. Strauss.

He died at the age of 36. He was married to the artist-architect Lidiya Kiyashko. He had two children.
