Vasyltsiv is considered the first Ukrainian musical Internet meme (2005). Some assess his work as a boost of energy, calling it a fun project, albeit for an amateur, while others are fans and consider him the most original and interesting musician in Ukraine.
Biography
He started studying music at the age of six, when he started singing in the spiritual singing chapel "Sol anime". The chapel was active in concerts: it performed in churches in Lviv, Ukraine and Poland, gave concerts in educational and social institutions, participated in sacred song competitions.
In 2003, he graduated with honors from the Lviv Music School No. 2 in the class of classical guitar and entered the Lviv State Music School named after S. Lyudkevich to the department "Musical art of variety". He graduated from the school in 2007, having received a diploma with honors as an artist and orchestra leader.
Studying at LDMU named after S. Lyudkevich in 2004, entered the correspondence department of the East European University of Economics and Management. He continued his economic education at the Lviv Commercial Academy at the Faculty of International Economic Relations.
As a musician, he participated in guitar competitions, performed with music school ensembles in Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, and Belgium.
He wrote his first song "Washing Life" on August 14, 2001. In 2003, he published a collection of songs "Where to find happiness". In 2005, the book "Fire of the Earth (My first 100 songs)", which, in addition to the lyrics, contained a CD with audio recordings of songs performed by the author. The artistic design was made by Yaroslav Rakochy. On September 27, 2006, he received an author's certificate for it.
Vasyl Vasyltsev's popularity began in the Ukrainian sector of LiveJournal blogs, where the song "Thank you, Ruslano!" gained popularity. and Squid, Fried Squid. In October 2005, an Internet community of his fans, art_off, was created, which described the style "according to Vasyltsiv" as follows:
"This art is difficult to characterize. For some it is primitive, for some it is bad, some see in it tastelessness, kitsch, profanity, dilettantism, some would prefer it not to exist... Nevertheless, the majority reacts to it with joyful laughter, and it does not matter what the reasons for this laughter are »
In 2006, the group Esthetic Education released a single, and later a music video Vasil Vasyltsiv, dedicated to the artist. This song was included in their 2007 album Werewolf. Cooperation with Esthetic Education became the peak of Vasyltsiv's mainstream fame.
On December 24, 2006, the first licensed album of Vasyl Vasyltsiv "Golden Hits" was released on the "Esthetic Music" label. Mastering was done by Ilya Galushko. Photo for design — Fako. The presentation took place in the format of the first concert of Vasyl Vasyltsiv in the club "Kvartira Babuin" in Podil. The album, which was positioned as an imitation of Vasyl's favorite band The Beatles, was remembered for its simple guitar parts, graphomaniac lyrics and Vasyltsiv's unremarkable vocal skills — but at the same time, it allowed Vasyl to develop a career as a successful musician. In the following years, he tours Ukraine, performs at festivals and on television, and gives interviews to the mass media.
In the same year, with the assistance of the Kyiv magazine "Afisha", the single "Fans" was included in the CD collection "Indie-groups". The presentation took place in "Disco Radio Hall".

On January 14, 2009, the second licensed CD "Very Close" was released. The presentation took place in the Picasso club. In addition to the 16 songs, the sound producers of which were Mykola Salo and Vasyl Vasyltsiv, the disc contained the video clip "Zirka" with the participation of Anna Lazar and additional materials (words with chords of songs from the album and photos). The design of the record was realized by Andrii Klion.
On March 10, 2009, the song "I swim" was included in the CD collection "Yevshanzillya-3"
He was active on television. In particular, he was a guest of the programs "Guten morgen" on the M1 TV channel, "Breakfast with 1+1", "Flight Review" on the Inter TV channel, "Maximum Program in Ukraine" on ICTV, a guest host of MTV Ukraine. He took part in the music show "X-factor", and was also a guest of "Invited dinner" on the TV channel STB.
In 2009, he published the collection "I'll Unwrap You", which, in addition to the lyrics, contained the chords of 69 new songs. Photos for the cover of the collection were taken by Andrii Janushevskyi. The layout of the edition for printing was prepared by Serhii Cherkun.
In total, Vasyltsiv is the author of more than 300 songs and compositions written in a wide variety of musical genres. He presented his work to the public with more than 70 concerts (in various educational institutions, clubs, institutions, on open stages, at the All-Ukrainian festivals "Red Ruta", "Song of the Heart", "Moloko Music Fest", "Atlas Weekend", "Zakhidfest" , art clubs of Lviv, Kyiv, Khmelnytskyi, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Ternopil, Lutsk, Rivne, in opera theaters of Lviv and Donetsk). He became a graduate of the "Young Talents of Lviv" competition for instrumentalists.
Vasyltsiv's concerts in the 2000s were marked by an atmosphere characteristic of rock music of the 1990s: underground clubs on the outskirts of cities, fans who know the artist's songs by heart.
During the 20From 10 to 2011, he was the author, director and host of the live page "Ukrainian groups" on the air of the Lviv State Television and Radio Company. On May 11, 2011, he received an author's certificate for the script of the informative and entertaining music show "Ukrainian groups".
On June 28, 2010, he graduated from the Lviv Commercial Academy and received a full higher education in the specialty 8.050108 "Marketing" and obtained a master's degree in marketing (Diploma with honors). The topic of the master's thesis is "Justification of marketing tools for increasing the efficiency of the enterprise in the service sector." After completing his studies, he works as a marketer, at the same time continues to write songs, although he no longer leads a public musical career.
From 2015 to 2018, he studied at the postgraduate program of the National Institute of Strategic Studies under the President of Ukraine. Specialty 21.04.01 "Economic security of the state". Obtained the scientific degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences (equivalent to the title of Doctor of Philosophy — PhD). Dissertation topic "Organizational and economic mechanism of strengthening the economic security of the information technology sector." Published 7 professional articles. Participant of 10 scientific conferences.
In 2019, he moved to China, in particular, wrote the song and shot the music video "Heavenly". In February 2020, he returned to Ukraine due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Perception
Vasyltsiv himself declares that he is "developing his own musical style, because a real artist should strive to go beyond the established framework." Parfan describes the performer's style as "trash music", which, in her opinion, includes such signs of postmodernism as carnival, irony, double coding, pastiche and schizophrenia.
Vasyltsiv is the first example of a musical Internet meme in Ukraine, which was able to go beyond new media and participatory subculture and gain popularity in the traditional media and music sphere.
