Biography.
Yuriy Varum was born on October 8, 1949 in Gomel, the Belarusian SSR.
Yuriy Varum married at an early age, and at the age of 19 he had a daughter, Maria Varum, at that time he lived in Lviv. When his daughter was 10 years old (1979), Yurii divorced his first wife Halyna.
In the 1970s, he led the Ukrainian vocal group Eureka, was a jazz musician and composer; after this group merged with Ihor Khoma's jazz ensemble Medicus in the mid-1970s, the famous Ukrainian vocal group Arnika was formed.
He managed Valeriy Leontyev's group Echo and co-wrote a number of songs with him.
Later, he founded and managed the jazz-rock band Labyrinth, with Victoria Vradii as the lead singer and Volodymyr Bebeshko as the bassist. They worked at the Gorky Philharmonic.
After moving to Moscow, he arranged songs for Alla Pugacheva.
Songs: "The Town", "Autumn Jazz", "The Artist Who Paints the Rain", Kirill Krastoshevsky performed as a bard in the theater "Contemporary" in the play "A Contemporary Tells About Himself", Yuri wrote new music and made arrangements for the songs, and he expected that Alla Pugacheva would sing these songs, but Alla took them, then he gave these songs to his daughter.
In 1990, he became the producer of his daughter Maria (Angelika) Varum.
In 1991-1998, Yuriy Varum wrote music for almost all of his daughter's songs, based on poems by poets Kyrylo Krastoshevsky, Herman Vitke, Vadym Shahabutdinov, and Yuriy Rybchynsky.
On June 28, 2001, the Varum Records Company was established, with Vitalii Anatoliiovych Larin (1968-2014) as its CEO and Yurii as a founder.
After his daughter, singer Anzhelika Varum, married singer and composer Leonid Agutin (2000), Yuri Varum moved to Miami with his wife Lyuba, and raised his son Misha and granddaughter Lisa, with whom he and his wife effectively replaced their parents.
Death
On June 6, 2014, it became known that Yuriy had died. He died in Miami, Miami-Dade, Florida, USA. Before his death, he suffered from diabetes for a long time, and in 2004, his right toe was amputated due to gangrene. After her father's death, Angelique Varum suspended her concerts and performances for a while.
Personal life.
His first wife (1968-1979) was a theater director Halyna Mykhailivna Shapovalova (b. January 1, 1950); after the divorce, his daughter Masha lived with her until she entered the theater institute. Daughter singer Maria Yurievna Varum (b. 1969), known as Angelika Varum.
Son-in-law is singer Leonid Agutin.
Granddaughter Elizabeth Varum (born February 9, 1999). Since 2003, she has lived in Miami with her grandfather, his wife and uncle Misha. She went to college there. She created her own rock band, Without Gravity, with which she performed at concerts in schools, wrote music for the band, and played guitar.
His second wife, Lyubov Varum (b. December 22, 1959), grew up in Voronezh and performed in the Siberian Dance Ensemble.
