Varchenko Vasyl

Varchenko Vasyl (? - 26 January 1770 in Kodnia, now Zhytomyr region) - Kobzar. A participant of the Koliyivshchyna as a member of Remesa's Haidamak detachment, which he joined in 1768 from Zvenyhorodka (now Cherkasy region). He raised the morale of the rebels by playing the bandura and singing songs. He was executed in Kodnia by a noble court, as recorded in the Kodnia Book.

Based on stories about V. Varchenko, Taras Shevchenko created an image of a kobzar in his poem "Haydamaky" who inspires the rebels with his art.
