Tsepkolenko Carmella Semenivna

1955

Ukrainian composer. In 1979, she graduated from the Odesa Conservatory (class of composition under Prof. O. Krasotov and piano under Prof. L. Ginzburg). In 1986-1989, she studied under the guidance of Prof. G. M. Tsypin at the postgraduate school of the Moscow Pedagogical University, where she received a PhD in Pedagogy. She attended composition master courses in Germany (Darmstadt, 1992, 1994; Bayreuth, 1993). She has participated in numerous international festivals and forums.

Laureate of all-Union and international composing competitions. She has received grants from the Heinrich Böll Foundation (Germany, 1995), the OASI (Germany, 1996), the Johannes Brahms House Foundation (Germany, 1996), the International Renaissance Foundation (Ukraine), and the National Endowment for the Arts (New York, USA, 1996), and won grants for creative residencies in Shrayan (Germany, 1998), Vorpswede (Germany, 2000), and Di Gege (Germany, 2002, 2003).

She is the author of more than 70 works, many of which have been recorded on 12 CDs and broadcast on radio around the world. She is the author of the idea, founder and artistic director of the Two Days and Two Nights of New Music festival. Initiator, founder and chairman of the board of the international public organization Association New Music, the Ukrainian section of the International Society for Contemporary Music.

Professor of the A. Nezhdanova Odesa Music Academy (composition). Secretary of the Board of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine. Laureate of the B. Liatoshynsky Prize (2001). Honored Artist of Ukraine (2006).
