Tsegelsky Evgeny Romanovich

1912-1980

Yevhen Romanovych Tsegelsky (5 May 1912, Chernivtsi, Duchy of Bukovyna, Austro-Hungarian Empire-1980, USA), violinist and musicologist.

He came from a well-known family in Galicia. The son of Professor Roman Tsehelskyi and Melania née Levynski, nephew of Minister of the Ukrainian People's Republic Longin Tsehelskyi, and brother of Mykhailo Tsehelskyi. Graduated from the Prague Conservatory (1937). Director of the Mykola Lysenko Music Institute in Przemysl (1937-1939). Concert soloist; concertmaster of the Vienna Burgtheater. Since 1949, he has lived in the United States. The work "Czechs and Galician-Ukrainian Secular Music in the 19th Century".
