Tsalynyuk Vasyl

1887-1974

Vasyl Tsalynyuk (1887, Zalishchyky - 1974) was a Ukrainian conductor, composer, teacher, and public figure.
He was born in 1887 in Zalishchyky.

At school he showed an interest in music, and later conducted a church choir.

From 1900, he taught violin to Mykhailo Haivoronskyi, later a prominent composer.

In 1905-1906, he organized a choir at the teachers' seminary in Zalishchyky. He taught in the villages of Kobaki and Stari Kuty in the Hutsul region. During his vacations, he stayed in Zalishchyky and was on friendly terms with the writer Osyp Makovei.

In 1919-1920, Tsalynyuk conducted the choir at the Zalishchyky Teachers' Seminary. The Torban music publishing house published two musical postcards by Tsalynyuk, "Not a tall poplar..." and "In the garden parsnips" based on the words of Taras Shevchenko.

In his last years, he worked in the Berezhany region, and later in the village of Slobidka, Zalishchyky district, where he died in 1974.
