Vasyl Fedorovych Trutovskyi (born c. 1740 - c. 1810) was a singer-hussar, collector and harmoniser of Ukrainian folk songs, and composer, born in Ivanivska Sloboda (now Belgorod Oblast). From 1761, he was a court singer and "chamber musician" at the court of Catherine II in St Petersburg. Trutovsky was the author of the first Russian musical and folklore collection, Collection of Russian Simple Songs with Notes (parts 1-4, 1776-95), which also included Ukrainian folk songs, and piano variations on folk songs.
