Stupka Jan Baptiste

1892-1971

Stupka Jan Baptiste (born 24 June 1892 - died 1971) was a Ukrainian and Czech violist, conductor, composer and teacher.

Biography.
In 1911-1917 he was a concertmaster of the viola group of the Odesa Opera.

Since 1917, he has been teaching music in Hlukhiv. At the same time, he directed the choir and orchestra at the Hlukhiv Pedagogical Institute and the city choir.

From 1925, he worked in Kharkiv as a choirmaster of the State Ukrainian Choir.

He left the USSR, and in 1927, he lived in Prague, where he became a concertmaster of the viola group of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and a choirmaster of the Ukrainian choir.

Works.
He wrote the following works:

"Ukrainian Symphony",
"Ukrainian Serenade" for four French horns and harp,
romances to the words of L. Hlibov, V. Samoilenko, I. Franko, and T. Shevchenko.
