Stetsiuk Oleksandr Mykhailovych (Shindel Isaak Naumovych, 8 March 1941 - 29 January 2007) was a composer, teacher, conductor, member of the Union of Composers of Ukraine, Honoured Artist of Ukraine.
He was born in the village of Bilokorovychi, Olevsk district, Zhytomyr region. During the Second World War, he was left an orphan and brought up in an orphanage.
He graduated from the Zhytomyr Music College named after Viktor Kosenko in the class of trumpet (class of I. Drevetskyi), as well as the Kazan State Conservatory in the class of composition (class of Professor A. Lehman).
In 1960-1963 - a teacher at the cultural and educational school in Zhytomyr.
In 1963-1965 - concertmaster of the Zhytomyr Music and Drama Theatre.
Since 1965 - a teacher at the Zhytomyr Music College.
In the last years of his life, Oleksandr Mykhailovych was the head of the musical department and conductor of the Zhytomyr Music and Drama Theatre named after I. Kocherha.
He died in 2007.
Creative heritage
The works written by the composer include symphonic, choral, chamber, vocal and instrumental music.
Major works:
ballet Three Fat Men (based on a fairy tale by Yuri Olesha, 1971),
the symphonic poem of the same name "The Song of the Petrel" (cantata, 1968)
poem "The Commissar's Voice" (based on the words of Robert Rozhdestvensky, 1974),
composition "My Land" (1976).
The composer wrote a lot of music for the theatre, works for violin, cello, clarinet, trumpet, brass band, and re-orchestrated a number of old productions.
In memory of Oleksandr Stetsiuk, the Zhytomyr Musical Spring festival is held annually in Zhytomyr.
