Stefanovich Mikhail Pavlovich

1898-1970

Mykhailo Pavlovych Stefanovych (2 February 1898, Kyiv - 5 August 1970, Kyiv) was an opera bass singer and director, born in Kyiv, graduated from the Kyiv Conservatory (1922). From 1919 he was a soloist in the opera houses of Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, and from 1933 - in Perm and Saratov. People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR.

Main roles: Don Basilio (The Barber of Seville by G.-A. Rossini), Boris Godunov (in the opera of the same name by M. Mussorgsky). Taras Bulba (in the opera of the same name by Mykola Lysenko), Kochubey (Mazepa by P. Tchaikovsky).

1947 - 54 - director and artistic director of the Kyiv State Opera and Ballet Theatre. M. Stefanovych is the author of monographs on D. Hnatiuk (1961), M. Donets (1965), P. Bilynyk, I. Patorzhynskyi (1960), the book Kyiv Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre (1961), and the popular essay "What is Theatre".
