Biography
Oleksandr Stadnyk was born in 1961 in the village of Ruska Poliana, Cherkasy district, Cherkasy region. His father, Oleksandr Stadnyk, is a People's Artist of Ukraine, composer, musician, choirmaster-conductor, and former director of the Cherkasy Folk Choir.
His artistic education began at the music school in Cherkasy, where Oleksandr moved with his parents in 1967. He first studied piano, then accordion. In 1977-1981, Oleksandr Stadnyk studied at the Cherkasy Music School named after Hulak Artemovsky at the choirmaster's department. In 1986, he graduated from the Tchaikovsky Kyiv State Conservatory with a degree in choral conducting.
He has been working in the State Academic Volyn Folk Choir since 1989 as the chief conductor, and since 1993 as the artistic director. In 1998, Oleksandr Oleksandrovych was awarded the honorary title of Honored Artist of Ukraine. In 2011, he was awarded the Order of Merit, III degree. He is a member of the National League of Ukrainian Composers and a laureate of the Igor Stravinsky Prize.
Works
Oleksandr Stadnyk's creative work includes more than 200 arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs and original works for folk choir, the most famous of which are: "Oh Frost, Morozenko" based on a Ukrainian text, "My Thoughts, My Thoughts, You Are My Only Ones" and "Why Do I Need Black Brows" based on a poem by Taras Shevchenko, "To You, Ukraine" based on a poem by Lesya Ukrainka, "Oh Evening, Evening" based on a poem by Olena Pchilka, and "Fall Rain on My Chest" based on a poem by Vasyl Symonenko. Many of these songs have become popular and are performed by many groups in Ukraine.
