Slipak Vladimir Alekseevich

1941-2019

Volodymyr Slipak (2 June 1941, Sverdlovsk - 1 November 2019, Poltava) was a Soviet and Ukrainian composer and teacher.
He was born in Sverdlovsk to a military family. His parents came from the village of Berezivka, Hrebinkivskyi district, Poltava region.

After the death of his father on the frontlines of the Great Patriotic War, Volodymyr Oleksiyovych and his mother returned to Ukraine to Berezivka. The future composer first studied at the Berezivka Seven-Year School, then at the Hrebinkiv Secondary Railway School No. 55.

After graduation, he took a year-long course in accordion at the Mykola Lysenko Poltava Music College. Before being drafted into the army, he worked as a music and fine arts teacher at Berezivka Seven-Year School. After 3 years of military service, he entered Poltava State Pedagogical Institute, where he studied Russian language, literature and music.

After graduation, he worked at the Department of Aesthetic Education, then as the director of a music school, executive secretary, and deputy head of the regional branch of the Music Society. He worked at the Poltava Regional Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education named after M. V. Ostrohradskyi, as the head of the musical and fine arts department.

Creative path
He headed the regional branch of the National All-Ukrainian Music Union. He was a member of the National All-Ukrainian Music Union. His compositional works include the collections of songs "Songs of the Native Land" and "Melodies of My Soul".

His songs are performed by folk artists: Raisa Kyrychenko, Iosyp Kobzon, Nelli Nozhynova. They are in the repertoire of Honoured Artists of Ukraine Tetiana Sadokhina, Volodymyr Putko, and famous singers Anna Khyzhko, Nina Savchenko, and Volodymyr Rakovskyi.

Particularly popular are the songs to the lyrics of T. Holoborodko "Shine on us, Mother", "Song to the Native Land", to the lyrics of A. Lykhoshvay "Good Morning, Ukraine", "I Love You", "Evening Poltava", to the lyrics of M. Boyko "Two Wings in a Song", to the lyrics of N. Bilyk "Teacher's Waltz" and many others.

The desire to do good in his youth was revealed in the compositional activity of Volodymyr Oleksiyovych. He created more than 300 songs based on the poems of songwriters M. Shevchenko, M. Lukiv, T. Holoborodko, V. Rakovsky, V. Sleptsov, V. Homon, L. Deineka, N. Bilyk, V. Shynkarenko, O. Nedovis, O. Lukyanenko, K. Panets, M. Lytvyn and others.
