Skorokhod Kostyantyn Pavlovich

1921-1991

Ukrainian composer of classical and popular music.

Biographical information

Composer K.P. Skorokhod was born in Irpin on July 17, 1921. He lived on Ozerna Street. His mother worked in a local canteen. His father died in the war. Kostiantyn Pavlovych was also a participant in the Great Patriotic War, survived the siege in Leningrad, but he was lucky to survive. In 1946, he entered the Kyiv Conservatory. His teacher was the famous composer Lev Revutsky. In 1951, Skorokhod was qualified as a composer and teacher at the music college and music school. In 1951-55, Kostyantyn Skorokhod worked as a music editor at the Mystetstvo publishing house. In 1956, he switched to creative work. Kostiantyn's wife Liudmyla was a lawyer, she worked at the Ministry of Social Security and advised citizens of Irpin on legal issues at home. The couple raised three daughters. It would seem that they had nothing to do but live and be happy. But in 1963, 43-year-old Liudmyla became seriously ill and passed away. The composer had to send his daughters to a boarding school. Only 12 years later, Kostiantyn Pavlovych married for the second time. But his second wife also died. For a creative person, the emotional trauma he experienced was too painful. The composer, like many men, began to seek oblivion in alcohol. It is said that in such periods Skorokhod could sell his own melody for half a liter of vodka. There were buyers. But the artist loved his work, found time for work, friends, and young talents. In 1971-72, he worked as a director of an amateur choir and ensemble at the Irpin Agricultural College of Accounting. Together with Kostiantyn Skorokhod, Novytskyi took care of young talents and was one of the mentors of the aspiring poet Volodymyr Protsenko, who studied at the college. He never forgot about his children. His daughter, Tetiana Kostiantynivna, is now the principal of school No. 1 and is grateful to her father for introducing her to the world of bohemia. K.P. Skorokhod's songs were published in separate editions and collections. They were popular. Kostiantyn Pavlovych also wrote the anthem of Irpin School No. 17

К. Skorokhod died on February 22, 1991.
