Simeonov Konstantin Arsenovich

1910-1987

Konstantin Arsenievich Simeonov (7 (20) June 1910, Staritsky District, Tver Province - 3 January 1987, Leningrad) was a Soviet conductor. People's Artist of the USSR (1962). People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1960). Winner of the Shevchenko Prize (1976).
Born in the village of Kaznakovo (now Tver Oblast). After graduating from the Leningrad Conservatory, he worked as a conductor in Leningrad, Petrozavodsk, Minsk, and since 1946 in Kyiv. In 1957-1961, he was the chief conductor of the Ukrainian Radio Symphony Orchestra. In 1961-1966 and 1975-76 he was the chief conductor of the Kyiv Opera, and in 1967-1975 he was the chief conductor of the Leningrad Opera. Among his Kyiv productions were the operas Khovanshchyna (1963) and Kateryna Izmailova (1974). In 1964, he conducted opera performances of the Bolshoi Theatre at the La Scala Theatre. Since 1969 he has taught at the Leningrad Conservatoire.
