Silvansky Nikolay Yosypovych

1916-1985

Mykola Yosypovych Silvansky (5 January 1916, Kharkiv - 6 March 1985) was a Ukrainian pianist, composer, and teacher.
In 1944, he graduated from the Moscow Conservatoire (entered in 1937, speciality - piano). Teachers: Viacheslav Barabashov (composition), Yakiv Flier (piano).

He was a soloist of the Kharkiv Regional Philharmonic. 1947-1953 - teacher at the Music School and Kharkiv Conservatory.

1953-1955 - a teacher at the Mykola Lysenko Kyiv Secondary Specialised Ten-Year Music School.

Since 1955 - lecturer, since 1963 - associate professor of the Department of General and Specialised Piano at the Kyiv Conservatory. Among his students: Serhiy Kyrylov - artistic director and chief conductor of the Stavropol Municipal Chamber Orchestra "Cantabile" (graduated from the Conservatory in 1976).

Works.
The composer wrote most of his works for children. Silvansky's works were often staged by groups that catered to children's audiences. For example, in 1985, the newly created Kyiv Academic Music Theatre for Children and Youth debuted with three performances, including Mykola Silvansky's ballet Boy-Kybalchysh.
