Shvets Mikhail

1880-1938

Mykhailo Shvets (b. 1880, Horodyshche - d. 12 November 1938, New York) was an opera singer (basso profundo) at the St. Petersburg, Odesa, Moscow, and Kyiv operas, and after the First World War in the United States.

Biography.
In 1918, he emigrated to the United States. He took part in performances at the Ukrainian National Theatre in New York. He performed solo roles in Tchaikovsky's opera Mazepa (1933) and in the films Natalka Poltavka (1937) and Zaporozhets Beyond the Danube (1939).

He performed at the opera houses of New York, Philadelphia and other cities, sang on the radio, and recorded on gramophone records.

He died on 12 November 1938 in New York.
