Shvedov Ivan Mikhailovich

Ivan Mykhailovych Shvedov (Shvediv) (25 December (1898, Liptsi village, near Kharkiv - 28 July 1959, Buenos Aires, Argentina) was a Ukrainian opera singer (tenor). Honoured Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1940).

He was born in Kharkiv region. He received his vocal education at the Kharkiv Music and Drama Institute (1926-31, class of M. Chemezov).

He performed at the Odesa Opera in 1925-1934, and was a premier at the Kyiv Opera in 1935-1941.

Roles: Andriy (S. Hulak-Artemovsky's Cossack Beyond the Danube), Petro, Andriy (M. Lysenko's Natalka Poltavka, Taras Bulba), Andriy (P. Tchaikovsky's Mazepa), Yenyk (B. Smetana's The Sold Bride), Cavaradossi (Giacomo Puccini's Tosca), José (G. Bizet's Carmen).

Since 1950 he lived in Argentina; died in Buenos Aires.
