Shutenko Kim Oleksandrovych

1932-2010

Kim Oleksandrovych Shutenko (17 October 1932, Kharkiv - 13 June 2010) was a Soviet and Ukrainian composer, member of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine, winner of all-Ukrainian competitions.
He was born on 17 October 1932 in Kharkiv. He studied at the Rostov Music College. In 1956 he graduated from the Gnesin State Music and Pedagogical Institute in Moscow. In 1954-1959, he was a teacher and deputy director of the Yakutsk Music and Art School. From 1959 to 1962 he worked at the Kaluga Music School. He taught theoretical subjects and composition at the Kirovohrad Music College (1962).

Creative works
He wrote music for performances of the Kirovohrad Music and Drama Theatre named after M. L. Kropyvnytskyi: "A bad spark will burn the field and disappear", "Kateryna", as well as to plays by contemporary playwrights. For the symphony orchestra of the music school, he composed "Cossack Overture", "Russian Overture", etc. His Piano Concerto (1967) was performed in Moscow. His works include many children's pieces for piano, domra, balalaika, oboe, trumpet, and violin. He is the author of many songs, including the cycle "27 two-voice fugues on themes of Ukrainian folk songs".

Among the graduates of his class are three generations of musicians: teachers of music schools, composers, and musicologists. The most famous of them are People's Artist of Russia Ihor Krutoi, Honoured Artist of Russia Yurii Tkachenko, member of the Union of Composers of Ukraine Oleh Polevyi, PhD in Art History Iryna Sikorska, Maryna Dolhikh, composers Oleh Smyrnov, Vitalii Delestianov, Oleksii Kharchenko, singer-songwriter Andrii Fomenko and many others.
