Shurov Dmytro Ihorovych

1981

Ukrainian author-performer, composer and musician, founder and soloist of the Pianoboy project.

In the past, he was a pianist for the bands Okean Elsa (2001-2004), Esthetic Education (2004-2008), and Zemfira (2006-2009).

Co-organizer of the Kyiv Moloko Music Fest (2008, 2009) as part of the GogolFest festival. Wrote music for the films "Hottabych", "Button", "Orangelove", "Soldier Games", "How to Find an Ideal", "Mysterious Island", "Servant of the People", "Incorrigible", for the comedy show "League of Laughter" and fashion shows of Alena Akhmadullina (English: Alena Akhmadullina).

He is the ambassador of the Yamaha brand in Ukraine. Four-time laureate of the YUNA award, the winning judge of the 8th season of the X-factor project on the STB TV channel, and the star judge of the 9th season of the Show (2017-2018). Music producer of the National Selection and the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

Biography
early years

Born on October 31, 1981 in Zhmeryntsi, Vinnytsia region. His father is a poet, artist, television program editor Shurov Ihor Viulenovych. Mother is a teacher and musician. He learned to play the piano from the age of four. He graduated from the 4th grade of a music school.

As a teenager, he studied for six months in France, at the Lycée Auguste Renoir in Limoges, and then lived in Utah, USA for a year under the FLEX exchange program. In America, he played in a jazz orchestra, sang in a choir, an octet that performed works from the Baroque period, and also in the Barbershop quartet. In theater class, he became a fan of American musicals of the 1950s and 60s. After returning from America, he entered the Kyiv Linguistic Institute.
"Okean Elzy"

In 2000, Dmitry was offered to join Okean Elsa. The first song he learned with the band was "Here was spring", which was planned for the collection of Ukrainian folk ritual songs "Spring". This compilation never saw the light of day, although the song itself can be found on the acoustic album "Your Format" and the compilation 1221. Shurov is listed as a co-author of the song.

His debut concert as part of "Oceana" was played in Odesa on April 1, 2000. On April 20, 2001, Shurov was accepted into the group on a permanent basis. As part of "Ocean", he participated in the creation of two studio albums, played at concerts of three tours in Ukraine and the CIS ("Demand for more", 2001, "Supersymmetry", 2003, "Pacific Ocean", 2004, "Best songs for 10 years" , 2004).
"Esthetic Education" and Zemfira

In 2001, the Belgian director Louis Frank, who lives in London, met the group. Louis shot a music video for the group's song "Friend" in Barcelona. He also informed the musicians that he would shoot a film and offered to write music for it. In the end, only Shurov and bassist Yuri Khustochka began to cooperate with him. This material became the basis for the debut album "Face Reading".

The last concert as part of OE took place in Donetsk in August 2004. Since then, Dmytro became a member of the new group Esthetic Education, in which he released three albums, a single and played many concerts.

In the fall of 2006, Zemfira invited Shurov to become the pianist of her group, with which she began rehearsing and playing new songs. The result of this cooperation was her fifth studio album "Thank you", released on October 1, 2007. Also, Dmytro as a pianist played a large concert tour in support of the album - almost 100 performances, one of which was a concert that later appeared on DVD. It was directed by Renata Litvynova, it took place in Moscow at the Green Theater and was named "Green Theater in Zemfira".
Composition

Shurov wrote the music for the musical performance "Cinderella" based on the play by Evgeny Shvarts, which was staged in April 2014 on the stage of the Sovremennyk theater. In 2015, music was created for the play "Guardians of Dreams". In the same year, Dmytro wrote the main soundtrack for the TV series "Servant of the People" of the Kvartal 95 studio. The iconic song "Family" sounds as the main theme in the TV series "Don't give up" and the documentary film "Children of Victory".

Shurov became the music producer of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

At the beginning of 2009, Shurov began working on the opera "Lion and Leia", a part of which was performed in Paris at the fashion designer Elena Akhmadulla's fashion show. In the process of work, Shurov had the idea of creating his own group. Sister Olga Shurova began to help Shurova in the work on the project, which was named "Pianoboy".
Shurov in 2011

Dmytro Shurov's first performance as Pianoboy took place in September 2009 as part of the second Moloko Music Fest. In November 2009, the premiere of the first song, "Smysla.net", took place on radio and television, and on December 29, 2009, Pianoboy played his first full-fledged solo concert in Kyiv, where a music video for this song was also presented. In January 2010, Pianoboy started recording his debut album, and at the end of February he started a club tour in Ukraine.

On December 13, 2011, together with Vakarchuk, Sergey Babkin, Max Malyshev and Peter Chernyavsky, he presented the album "Brussels", which became a joint project of the musicians. The debut was released in May 2012Pianoboy's album - "Simple things", and in September 2013 - the album "Don't stop dreaming".

Shurov performed in the old lineup of "Ocean Elsa" on December 14, 2013 at Euromaidan and at the group's anniversary concert in "Olympiyskyi" on June 21, 2014. In 2015, Pianoboy presents the new album "Take Off" and tours Ukraine.

In 2019, he released the album "History", in the recording of which sounds an orchestra, as well as a choir with the participation of the band's fans. A few days before the announcement of the quarantine in Kyiv, on March 8, 2020, he gave a big concert with the presentation of the album in the capital's Palace of Sports.

In the quarantine period of 2020, he wrote the album "Zabroshka" while in self-isolation, so all the instruments and vocals you hear in the album were recorded independently.

In June 2022, the single "Keep Your Own" was released. According to Dmitry, the song was written a year before the full-scale war. The music video for the song was shot with the assistance of the management of Boryspil airport, in an absolutely empty main airport of the country.

In 2016, he took part in a photo shoot for the charity calendar "Sincere. Heritage", dedicated to the Ukrainian folk costume and its popularization. The project was implemented by the efforts of the "Domosfera" shopping center and the communication agency Gres Todorchuk. All funds from the implementation of the calendar were sent to help Ukrainian museums, in particular, the Mykhailo Strutynsky Museum of Folk Art and the Novoaidar Museum of Local History.

In 2015-2018, together with his family, he is a permanent star participant of the Courage Bazaar Charity Project, and together with his son perform under the name The Shu to raise funds for holding camps for children with disabilities and developmental disabilities.

He is an ambassador of the worldwide He For She movement, supports initiatives aimed at introducing the basis of equality in Ukrainian society.

On an ongoing basis, he supports the Tabletochka Charitable Fund, which takes care of children with cancer and develops a palliative program.

With the beginning of the invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, he became a volunteer, carries humanitarian goods, plays concerts for the military, doctors, and rescuers. Gives charity concerts both in Ukraine and abroad, and collects funds for tactical medicine and urgent needs of the Armed Forces. For this, in August 2022, Shurov was awarded a state award — the Order of Merit, III degree.

Shurov took part in the second Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen, where together with Ellie Goulding, he spontaneously performed the song "Oi vu luga red viburnum".
Privacy

In 2002, he married Olga Tarakanovskaya (Shurova). On August 23, 2003, they had a son, Lev Shurov. He lives with his family in Kyiv.
