Shumskyi Mykola Oleksandrovych

1960

Ukrainian conductor, accordionist, teacher, public figure. Honored Artist of Ukraine (1996), Associate Professor (1997), People's Artist of Ukraine (2016), Professor (2018), Head of the Department of Instrumental and Performance Training at the Mykola Gogol Nizhny State University, Professor of the Department of Orchestral Conducting and Instrumental Studies at the National Academy of Music of Ukraine named after P. I. Tchaikovsky.

Member of the National All-Ukrainian Music Union (1993), Excellence in Education of Ukraine (1995). Awarded with an honorary award of the NMAU named after P. I. Tchaikovsky — "Order for outstanding achievements in musical art" (2008).

Biography

Mykola Oleksandrovych Shumskyi was born on March 26, 1960 in the village of Grechana in the Khmelnytskyi region. In 1980, he graduated from the Khmelnytskyi Music School in accordion class with G. I. Cheskyi.

In 1985, he graduated from the Kyiv State Conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky (accordion class, People's Artist of Ukraine, Professor V.V. Besfamilny; conducting class, People's Artist of Ukraine, Professor A.G. Vlasenko).

In 1993, he completed an assistantship-internship at the department of folk instruments at the Kyiv State Conservatory named after P. I. Tchaikovsky: according to the accordion class of the People's Artist of Ukraine, Professor V. V. Besfamilny and in the ensemble class of the People's Artist of Ukraine, Professor M. I. Rizol.

From 1996 to 2011, he was engaged in concert activities as part of the "Nizhyn Duet of Bayanists" together with Volodymyr Dorokhin. As part of the duo, he toured in Ukraine and abroad: Poland (1998), Austria (2000), Germany (1994, 2001), Belarus (1989, 1990), Kyrgyzstan (1992, 2002), Bashkortostan (2003), Russia (2003, 2005). He participated in many prestigious governmental cultural and artistic events and All-Ukrainian and International music festivals and competitions. Among the creative victories as part of the duet: First prize and title of laureate of the International Competition of Accordion Ensembles (Bishkek, 1992), First prize and title of laureate of the International Competition of Duets of Accordionists and Accordionists (Moscow, 2005), Second prize and title of laureate of the V International "Play, accordion" competition (Rzhev, 2005), "Grand Prix" at the 1st International accordionist and accordionist competition "Accords of Lviv" (Lviv, 2006), laureate of the International Festival of Slavic Music (Lviv, 2006) Kharkiv, 2006), together with the "Svitych" Youth Choir, won the First Prize of the International Choir Competition (Wernigerode, Germany, 2001).
Pedagogical and executive activity

Since 2002, he heads the department of instrumental and performance training of the Faculty of Culture and Arts of NSU named after M. Gogol, is the founder of three specializations: "Music and orchestral work", "Music and direction of musical - educational events", "Music and variety - performing activities in educational institutions".

The developer and author of the programs of educational disciplines taught at the faculty: "History of orchestral art", "Instrumental science", "Arranging", "Musical computer technologies", "Methodology of computer and information technology application".

M. O. Shumskyi is the artistic director of the Mykola Gogol National State University Orchestra of Folk Instruments. At the head of the orchestra, he conducts large-scale concert and educational activities, won the title of Laureate of the 3rd All-Ukrainian Competition named after B. Lyatoshinskyi, participates in city and regional cultural events, including the All-Ukrainian Junior Competition of Music and Performing Arts named after Academician Oleg Tymoshenko, the annual artistic project "NIZHYN-MUZ-FEST", report concerts of the College of Culture and Arts named after Maria Zankovetska, masters classes within the All-Ukrainian scientific and practical conferences.

The composite orchestra of folk instruments of the Mykola Gogol Nizhyn State University and the Nizhyn College of Culture and Arts named after Maria Zankovetska, under the direction of the People's Artist of Ukraine, Professor Mykola Shumsky, won three victories in 2020: "Grand Prix" at the "GOLDEN LION" International Arts Festival-Competition in Lviv, a diploma of the Laureate of the 1st degree at the 5th International Art Competition "CA ART WORLD" in Turkey" and a diploma of the Laureate of the 1st degree at the 7th International Polycultural Festival-Competition "Pereyaslavskii Divograi".
Scientific and compositional activity

M. O. Shumskyi is the author of more than 20 scientific articles and 11 educational aids and textbooks, including those bearing the seal of the Ministry of Education and Science. The most famous works: "Textbook from the orchestra class. Part I", "Textbook from the orchestral class. Part II", "Fundamentals of orchestra training (initial stage). Part I" "Fundamentals of orchestra training (initial stage). Part II".

In co-authorship with Lyudmila Yuriivna Shumska and Lyudmila Vasylivna Kostenko, he published the teaching aids "Choir Class" (2012) and "Conductor and Choir Training" (2020 years); published author's collections: "Choral works", "Piano works", "Pedagogical repertoire of a bandurist".

He is the author of more than 400 translations for the orchestra of folk instruments, including musical works by I. Albenis, T. Albinoni, A. Arenskyi, L. V. Beethoven, J. Bizet — R. Shchedrin, J. Brahms, J. Verdi, E. Grig, S. Gulak-Artemovskyi, S. Gounod, A. Dvorak, K. Debussy, K. Dembski, M. Lysenko, B. Lyatoshynskyi, P. Nishchynskyi, M. Oginskyi, S. Prokofiev, A. P' Iazzolli, A. Rodrigo, J. Rossini, P. Tchaikovsky, D. Shostakovich and others.
