Shevchenko Yuriy Valentynovych

1953-2022

Yurii Shevchenko (1 September 1953 - 23 March 2022, Kyiv) was a Ukrainian composer, author of symphonic and chamber works, music for radio plays, films and cartoons, ballets, and operas. Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, National Union of Composers of Ukraine, nine-time winner of the Kyiv Pectoral Theatre Award, winner of the Mykhailo Verikivskyi (2007), Mykola Lysenko (2012), Artem Vedel Kyiv Prize (2018), and Viktor Kosenko Prize for works for children and youth (2019). Honoured Artist of Ukraine (1997).
He was born on 1 September 1953 in Kyiv.

In 1977, he graduated from the Faculty of Composition of the Kyiv Conservatory.

Since 1977, he has been an editor of music for the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company of Ukraine.

He died on 23 March 2022 at the Oleksandrivska Hospital in Kyiv from coronavirus disease.

2018 - Art Prize "Kyiv" named after Artem Vedel - winner of the prize for the ballet "Kobzar" (for symphony orchestra and choir, 2015), suite for solo violin and string orchestra "Batyarski pisni" (2015), music for the performance based on the story by Ivan Franko "Cross paths" (2016)
2019 - X International Festival of Puppet Theatres "Podilska Lyalka" (Vinnytsia) - winner in the nomination "Best Music" (performance "Snail and Her Hut", directed by Yuriy Titarov, Kyiv Private Puppet Theatre "Ravlyk")
