Shchurovsky Petro

1850-1908

Petro Shchurovsky (1850-1908) was a pianist, conductor and composer originally from Poltava. He is the author of the first version of the Thai national anthem.

Biography.
He received his musical education at the Moscow Conservatoire. Kapellmeister of the Imperial Moscow Opera (1878-1882), later in Ukraine and provincial cities of Russia. Organiser of music education in Poltava, where, in particular, he trained Ukrainian composer Hordii Hladkyi.

Author of the operas "Blacksmith Vakula" (unfinished) and "Bohdan Khmelnytsky" (1883); solo chants, piano pieces and a collection of anthems of all countries of the world, 2 orchestral suites.

He is the author of the first version of the national anthem of Thailand, which was in force until 1932.
