Semenov Valentin Petrovich

1933-1995

Valentyn Petrovych Semenov (b. 17 December 1933, Sevastopol - 7 December 1995) was a Ukrainian pianist, concertmaster, teacher; Honoured Artist of the Ukrainian SSR since 1977.

Biography.
He was born on 17 December 1933 in Sevastopol. In 1957, he graduated from the Odesa Nezhdanova Conservatory. Member of the CPSU since 1959. He worked as a teacher (from 1960 - director) of the Odesa Secondary Specialised Music Boarding School named after P. Stoliarskyi, from 1967 - artistic director of the Odesa Philharmonic. Since 1977, he has been the director of the Odesa Opera and Ballet Theatre.

On his initiative, the Odesa Philharmonic created an orchestra of Ukrainian folk instruments and two instrumental quartets. He was one of the organisers of the All-Union music festivals "Danube Spring" (Odesa).
