Savitsky Roman

1904-1974

Roman Yanuariovych Savytskyi (23 November 1904, Bachyna village, now Starosambir district, Lviv region - 11 September 1974, Lysovychi village, Stryi district, Lviv region) was a Ukrainian amateur composer and teacher.

Biography.
Roman Savytskyi was born on 23 November 1904 in the village of Bachyna in the Lviv region. His father worked in the brewery of Mr Sozansky.

In 1921, Roman Savytskyi graduated from school in his native village. He then studied at the Ukrainian Academic Gymnasium in Lviv. He was one of the best soloists of the gymnasium choir. In 1924, he entered the History Department of Lviv University.

After graduating in 1929, Roman Savytskyi was unemployed for several years. With great difficulty, he managed to get a job as a history teacher at a private gymnasium in Stanislav (now Ivano-Frankivsk). In September 1939, the gymnasium where Savytskyi worked was transformed into a secondary school, and Roman Januariovych was appointed its principal.

In the 1950s and 1960s, he taught mostly in villages, taught history, was a head teacher, and headmaster of schools in the villages of Semyhyniv and Liubyntsi in Stryi district.

In 1973, a collection of Roman Savytskyi's songs was published.

He is the author of the songs "Hutsulka Ksenia", "Storks", "Red Poppies", "Shepherds", "Flower from the Polonyna", "Stars Beckon in Chornohora", "Zaduma", "Marichka" ("Through the Windy Mountains..."), "Parting", "Glory to the Kobzar", "Mavka", "Dreamy Student", "Hara Olena", "Mriya", "Oh, Dear Mother".
