Sandler Oskar Aronovich

1910-1981

Oskar Aronovych Sandler (*13 (26) January 1910, Kyiv - †3 May 1981, Kyiv) was a Soviet and Ukrainian composer. Honoured Artist of the Kazakh SSR (1943). Honoured Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1967).
He was born on 26 January 1910 in Kyiv. Graduated from the Kyiv Conservatory in 1937 in the class of Hlib Taranov (conducting) and Viktor Kosenko (composition).

1937-1940 - assistant conductor and conductor of the Kyiv Opera and Ballet Theatre. He was the head of the musical department of the Lesia Ukrainka Kyiv Russian Drama Theatre (1940-1941), the United Kazakh and Russian Drama Theatre (1941-1945, Alma-Ata), and the Kyiv Variety Theatre (1951).

He was a member of the CPSU (since 1947).

He died in Kyiv on 3 May 1981. He was buried at the Berkivtsi City Cemetery.
