Sainchuk Kornelii Ilyich

1935-2013

Musician, conductor, local historian, teacher, cultural and public figure.

Biography

Kornelii Ilyich Sainchuk was born on November 27, 1935, in the Chernivtsi suburb of Lenkivtsi (now a city district).
He began his career in 1951 as an apprentice mechanic at the Chernivtsi Woodworking Plant.
In 1958, he entered the Chernivtsi State Music College, French horn class, class of teacher I. Petrov.

Since 1962, after graduating from the music school, working as a head teacher and later as the director of the Novoselytsia (Chernivtsi region) music school, he managed to turn the school into a numerous and experienced teaching staff with many branches and classes, created the first children's symphony orchestra in the region in Novoselytsia. His students successfully continued their professional training, becoming well-known musicians and teachers.
Continuing his studies, K. Sainchuk graduated from the Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy in 1970 with a degree in French horn, class of teacher V. Pryadkin.
In 1981, he was appointed deputy, and since 1991, head of the Chernivtsi Regional Department of Culture.
With his participation and assistance, a hall of organ and chamber music, a museum of the Bukovynian diaspora, several music schools, a symphony orchestra and a chamber choir at the regional philharmonic, and the Bukovyna brass band at the regional center of folk art were opened in Chernivtsi.

With the brass band "Bukovyna", as artistic director and chief conductor, he gave many performances in the villages of Bukovyna and the city of Chernivtsi.
Kornelii Sainchuk, together with the creative teams of Bukovyna, successfully represented Bukovynian art in France (1984), Poland (1992-1993), Austria (1994), Romania (1980-1989 - repeatedly) and Moldova (1992).
K. Sainchuk is a co-founder of the Nazariy Yaremchuk Regional Charitable Foundation, and heads the Association of Wind Art Workers at the Chernivtsi Regional Branch of the All-Ukrainian National Music Union.
Under his authorship, he published the book "Trumpets of Bukovyna" (2005) - about the history of brass bands in the Chernivtsi region, and to the 600th anniversary of the first written mention of Chernivtsi (2008) - a thorough book-research of the history of the foundation, development and modern life of a large neighborhood of the regional center, where the city of Chernivtsi began - "Rainbow over the Prut".
K.I. Sainchuk has prepared several more books for publication, and is actively published in the magazines of the region and Ukraine.
K.I. Sainchuk was repeatedly elected a deputy of the Chernivtsi Regional Council.
