Sabin-Gus Yuriy

1882-1958

Yuri Davidovich Sabin-Gus (Sabinin) (5 May 1882, Tbilisi - 8 March 1958, Donetsk) was an opera bass singer. People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR since 1949.

Biography.
He was born in Tbilisi. Graduated from Kharkiv University in 1917. He studied singing privately.

In 1917-25 he was a soloist of the Tbilisi Opera, in 1925-27 - Baku Opera, a soloist of the Luhansk Opera, in 1927-33 - Simferopol and Dnipro Opera (1933-1940), in 1941-1958 - at the Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theatre.

He performed the following roles: Vybornyi (Natalka-Poltavka by Mykola Lysenko), Vakulenchuk (Battleship Potemkin by Oleksandr Chyshko), Kochubey (Mazepa by P. Tchaikovsky), Mephistopheles (Favst by S. Gounod), etc.
