Rudkovsky Matvey

1809-1887

Matvey Rudkovsky (1809? - 1887?) was a conductor, pianist and composer.

Biography.
He received his musical education in Lviv and Vienna. Between 1850 and 1860, he conducted the choir of the Greek Catholic Theological Seminary in Lviv. He also worked as a conductor of the Ukrainian Bursa Choir of the Stavropegian Institute in Lviv, and taught at educational institutions.

He is the author of choral works ("Happiness to Us, O God", "Prayer of a Maiden", etc.), works for piano (dances, fantasies on themes he had been born with) and solo songs ("Flowers from the Naddnestrian Levada...", 1852). He introduced works by German and other composers into Ukrainian church practice, setting Ukrainian texts to their melodies.
