Biography and creative activity
Yuriy Rozhkov was born on April 18, 1941 in Donetsk. From 1948 to 1958 he studied at secondary school No. 122 in Kyiv. Kyiv. In 1958, he became an apprentice turner at the Kyiv-based KinoDetal plant. In 1960-1965 he studied at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Simultaneously with his studies, while working at the Dovzhenko Film Studio, he studied the art of solo singing at the evening department of the Stetsenko Music School.
In 1969-1971, he studied at the Republican Studio of Circus and Variety Art (vocal department). In 1972-1973, he was a soloist of the Kyiv Variety and Concert. At this time, he became widely known for the song "Comrade Song", which he sang in the serial TV movie "How Steel Was Tempered" by Mykola Mashchenko.
In 1987-1991, he studied part-time at the Kyiv State Institute of Culture.
From 1997 to 2014, he worked as an artist.
Over the years, Yuriy Rozhkov has given more than 5 thousand concerts in different parts of Ukraine and other countries of the former USSR, where he was popular for his songs in the popular films Born of Revolution, The Oldest Men Go to Battle, Chanita's Kiss, as well as on the stages of Germany, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. He gave more than 200 concerts for the liquidators of the Chernobyl accident.
He recorded more than 150 recordings on Ukrainian radio.
In the 1980s, Yuriy Rozhkov began his career as a composer and arranger. His work as a composer includes more than a hundred songs based on the words of famous Ukrainian poets (B. Oliynyk, M. Lukiv, M. Shevchenko, G. Chubach). His sincere and melodious songs are performed by famous Ukrainian singers (D. Hnatiuk, O. Vasylenko, L. Sandulenko) and musical groups (the Hetman Quartet, the Kozatski Zabavy band).
Yuriy Rozhkov passed away on March 9, 2014.
