Anatoly Vladimirovich Rozanov (born 28 November 1954, Maikop) is a Soviet, Ukrainian and Russian composer, music producer and musician, producer and author of the music of the Freestyle band. He is a member of the Russian Society of Authors.
Anatoly Rozanov was born in 1954 in Maikop. He is the great-nephew of the famous Russian artist Olga Rozanova. The family soon moved to Pyatigorsk, where Anatoly lived until he was 16.
Then, since his maternal grandfather F.E. Polishchuk was a commander of a partisan unit during the German-Soviet war and was buried in Poltava near the Eternal Flame, the family was given an apartment in Poltava.
While studying at school, Anatolii was actively interested in pop music, fell in love with the Beatles, and played bass in the school band. After graduating from school, he played in various Poltava vocal groups. In October 1975, Anatoliy Rozanov created the Interval Vocal Ensemble at the Trade Union Building, which he led until the spring of 1978. The ensemble's repertoire included popular songs by Soviet composers, including military and patriotic ones. The VIA took an active part in the concert programmes of the Palace of Culture and performed at dance parties. From the very first concerts, the audience noted the ensemble's melodic, Beatles-esque sound, which is not surprising, as all the musicians of the group loved The Beatles and tried to be like them.
In 1979, Anatoliy Rozanov created the female vocal and instrumental ensemble Olympia at the Poltava Znamya plant's house of entertainment, and in 1980, he formed another group, the male vocal group Postskryptum. The Znamya plant manufactured products of defence importance, was in good standing with its ministry, and its management spared no expense for amateur performances. Many Poltava musicians went through these groups. And they would have remained amateurs for many years if the then well-known VIA Festival, a group that recorded music by composer Maksym Dunayevsky for many feature films, had not collapsed in 1987. Both halves of the Festival needed new members, and the former Festival members, led by musical director Oleg Sheremenko, turned to Anatoliy Rozanov, who had worked with VIA Festival as a second sound engineer for some time. As a result, the members of the "half" of the Festival teamed up with Anatoly Rozanov's musicians and got a job at the Krasnoyarsk State Philharmonic under the name Olimp. But the collaboration didn't work out, and the Rozanov part of Olympus, which adopted the name Profile, moved to neighbouring Barnaul, where it gave a series of concerts with the then-famous parody artist Mikhail Evdokimov.
Due to creative disagreements with the management of the Altai Philharmonic, the group's future prospects became vague, but the group under Anatoly Rozanov's leadership was invited to work by Mikhail Muromov's director, former leader of the Orpheus Vocal Group, Rafael Mazitov. Anatoliy Rozanov's group, which adopted the name "Aerobatics", accompanied Mikhail Muromov's performances, performing several songs written by Anatoliy Rozanov to poems by the group's members Sergei Kuznetsov and Vyacheslav Chernysh. One of these songs, "Be Calm for Me," became part of Sergei Belikov's repertoire. After watching the audience's reaction to Muromov's performances and analysing his repertoire, Anatoliy Rozanov tried to change the musical style of his own work. The songs he wrote afterwards were warmly received by the audience and coolly by Muromov himself. As a result, the musicians, led by Anatoly Rozanov, decided to create their own music project. Thus, on the night of 7-8 November 1987, the Freestyle band was born.
Anatoliy Rozanov is the permanent leader of Freestyle, practically the only author of all the band's songs. He has composed over 140 songs for Freestyle, including the famous "It Hurts Me, It Hurts" and "Ah, What a Woman!" (both based on poems by Tatiana Nazarova). In 1996, for his song "Ah, What a Woman!" Anatoliy Rozanov was awarded the Diploma of the Song-96 Music TV Festival.
In addition to the Freestyle band, Anatoliy Rozanov writes songs for other artists. For example, he wrote almost a dozen songs for Svetlana Lazareva (including "Tilnyashka" and "Lavochka"), several songs were included in the repertoire of Felix Tsarikati ("Oh, these legs", "Woman in blue"), Olga Pryadina ("White storks"). As part of the Freestyle Plus - Hits and Stars project, many young artists created their own cover versions of famous Freestyle songs.
On 16 February 2012, Anatoliy Rozanov inaugurated his own music studio in Poltava [Archived 10 August 2018 at the Wayback Machine], the building for which was constructed according to a specially designed project by ACOUSTIC [Archived 14 August 2018 at the Wayback Machine]. The combination of acoustic characteristics of the studio premises with a set of high-class equipment of recognised world brands is, according to many sound engineers, a completely new level of the recording industry for Ukraine.
On 22 March 2013, Anatolii Rozanov was awarded a special award - the Patriot of Ukraine star [Archived 30 August 2018 at the Wayback Machine].
