Havrylo Andriyovych Rachynskyi (1777, Novhorod-Siverskyi, now Chernihiv region - March 30 (April 11), 1843, Novhorod-Siverskyi) was a Ukrainian violin virtuoso, guitarist, and composer.
Son of conductor Andriy Rachynsky, second cousin of composer Mykola Lysenko, grandfather of Deputy Minister of Education of the Ukrainian People's Republic Oleksandr Rachynsky.
In 1789-1795, he studied at the Kyiv Academy, where he was a student of Artemiy Vedel. In 1795-1797 he studied at the gymnasium of Moscow University. Until 1805, he was a teacher of the highest music class at this gymnasium.
In 1817-1823 he lived in Novgorod-Seversky, and in 1823-1840 - in Moscow.
From 1808 he gave concerts in the cities of Ukraine - Kyiv, Poltava, Kharkiv, etc.
Creativity
He is known as a performing violinist and composer. In his programs, in addition to works by Western European composers, he performed his variations for violin on Ukrainian, Russian and Polish folk songs ("Beyond the Mountains, Beyond the Dols," "Winds Blow, Winds Are Violent," "Among the Valley of the Plains").
He is the author of the fantasy for seven-string guitar "On the banks of the Desna".
One of his sons was the author of another Ukrainian Aeneid, rich in ethnographic material (descriptions of matchmaking and weddings) and written in good Ukrainian.
