Puhalsky Volodymyr Vyacheslavovych

1848-1933

Ukrainian pianist of Belarusian origin, composer, teacher, musician. The first rector of the Kyiv Conservatory.
Honored Professor of the Ukrainian SSR (1928).

Biography.

Born in Minsk (now Belarus). In 1874 he graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory.

From 1876 he worked in Kyiv as a director and teacher at the Music School, from 1913 as a professor at the Conservatory, and from 1925 at the Mykola Lysenko Music and Drama Institute.

A number of pianists graduated from his school, including V. Horowitz, L. Nikolaiev, B. Yavorsky, H. Kogan, A. Alschwang, O. Brailovsky, M. Tutkovsky, Z. Khudyakova, E. Voltaire, P. Yarovoi, K. Mykhailov, N. Goldenberg, M. Rybytska, and V. Hryhorovych-Barsky.
He died on February 23, 1933. He was buried at the Lukianivka Cemetery.

Opera Valeria (1923), Ukrainian Fantasy and Symphony for Orchestra, works for piano, Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom for choir, etc.
